HAMMERTIME ESCALATION LEAGUE - SEASON ONE

Below is my suggested set up for our escalation league. Please comment to help refine it.

HAMMERTIME ESCALATION LEAGUE - SEASON ONE

The goal of the league for our small group is to finally gain a decent grasp on the rules and also to build up themed non power armies. The objective is to play to games a month (at least initially) with an ascending points level. This will be reviewed as we move in to higher points value as geographic and other considerations come into play.

ARMY BUILDING

The initial points limit for each army is 500 points. This will increase by 250 points each month. There are a number of guidelines that must be followed in army creation:
  • All armies must be Battle Forged
  • Any number of detachments may be used to create an army
  • Allies of any type may be used as per the BRB rules. (19/4/15)
  • Games of 500/750 points only require 1 Troops choice
  • Forge World army lists and rules are allowed
  • Removed Super Heavy rule. List ranking should punish cheese. (19/4/15)
  • Games 1000 points or less will be played in 4 by 4 tables
  • Games 1250 or higher will be played on 6 by 4 tables unless a smaller tables is agreed upon by both players
  • Whilst the Main army choice (ie base codex) may not change over the league the army list does not have to always include the same units. This means the units in the 500 point army list do not have to be auto included in the 750 point list.

LIST SUBMISSION

Each round will have a due date for draft and final list submission. Lists need to be posted to the blog for peer review. Each other player in the league is required to post a comment with a rating (1 - 5)  in the comments section of the list. Foe example a rating of 3 would have a comment "Draft 3".  An extremely unbalanced power list would be given a rating of 1. A well balanced list with a few nasties may be given a rating of 3. A fluffy as all hell probably going to lose list would be given a rating of 5.After draft ratings have been applied the player then has until the closing date for final lists to tweet and resubmit their list. Comments and ratings then need to reapplied in the form of "Final 3".The total for the final ratings will be added up and this becomes a players final rating. When a game is played two players compare ratings and the difference becomes the number of rerolls the player with the highest average gets over the course of the game. Rounding is done as per normal maths. For example: Rob has an average of 3.75 (3, 3, 4, 5) and Paul has a rating of 4.25. There is a different of 0.5. This is rounded up to 1. Therefore Paul will have a single dice reroll during the game.

Players should aim for the total points value for the round however, generally speaking, 1 or 2 points over should not be a concern.

TIMETABLE

Round One -
24th May - List Submission - Draft
31st May -  List Submission - Final
1st - 30th June - Round One Games

Round Two -

23rd June - List Submission - Draft
30th June - List Submission - Final
1st - 31st July - Round Two Games

Each round for the league has a mini timetable attached to it to ensure "cool runnings"

RANDOM DRAW

Each player is assigned a number from 1 - 5 each month and that determines who they play according to a pre determined table
.For example 1 - rob 2 = josh  3 = andy 4 = paul 5= aaron

Each month the play number will be rerolled to create a random draw. The Vs tables is however static.

1v2
3v4
5V1
2v3
4v5

  1. So bar what is above, there are no other rules for what you can take in your army? But you may suffer in the list submission phase if you are a power gamer?

  2. Oh one thing. Lets try and have some variety in the armies, I really don't want to keep playing the same fucking codex. I'm not a fan of the game in the 1st place and if I have to keep playing the same codex multiple times every month there will be ragequitting. Maybe if you draw the same codex for 1 person twice in a month, redraw it? Hopefully we have 5 different codex right from the start.

    1. I guess we should see what armies people are planning on playing>

      Paul - Necrons
      Aaron - Thousand Sons
      Andrew - Nurgle
      Josh - Eldar
      Rob - Who Fucking Knows

  3. Where do you want the lists? Will we post them here, on the Facebook group, or elsewhere?

    1. I think as per your suggestion a google folder where each player can store army lists and comments added. Can final lists be set to not be edited after due date.

  4. Changes made in red on 19/4

Are we happy with only a single troop choice sub 750? Has this factored into anyones army build?

    1. I really don't think a max of 4 rerolls is going to counter a super heavy. I thought the reason 2500 was decided was because it completely dominated the game you guys had. I'm not sure if you changed this because you yourself want to have a super heavy prior to then or if it has been discussed elsewhere.

Maybe change it to keep the rule for super heavies as they are really only designed for apocalypse games, but allow other Lords of War? This will allow less powerful stuff that happens to be in the LoW category like some characters and apparently Wraithknights. Unless Wraithknights are now super heavy in which case, sucks to be Gaydar.

And I had no issues at all including 2 x max size troops choices in a 500 pt list, and thats not even my cheap shitty troops, so I don't see any reason for that 750 rule to be in effect. Even at 500 I think it doesn't need to be there really. 1/2 the point of this is to get new armies to the tabletop, only having one troop choice is counter productive.

    2. Prob right line of though.

For example I can take a Great Unclean One as an HQ, If Josh wants an avatar it is a Lord of War.

  5. I concur, put the Super Heavy rule back in. I dont believe, like Paul, that the maximum of four rerolls would make much difference to the over all scheme of things.

This doesnt prevent us from revisting rules as the league progresses though. It can continually evolve.

    1. So no superheavies but allow other LoWs?.

What would that mean for us?

    2. It would mean no vehicles meant for apocalypse until 2500. Its an "escalation" league, not a "bumrape everyone until they ragequit" league.

Most codexes, the newer ones at least, have a special character as a LoW. Crons have The Stormlord and the 2 super heavy floating pyramids of doom. I don't plan on taking The Stormlord as I don't think special characters are what this thing we're doing is about. I do plan on taking one of the facerapers but not until around the 2.5k/3k mark. Seeing as its "escalation" I figure the last thing that would appear would be the biggest baddest thing, not one of the first.
