Yes! I'm back!

So after a long hiatus away from nerd gaming I suddenly had the urge to try out a Sons of Horus scheme. Never painted green before and with Sons it is hard as there are so many different greens people use.

I thought I would give this one a go. Haven't seen it anywhere, pretty much just thought the 3 shades would work well together.

Black primer.
Airbrushed VGC Jade Green.
Zenithal airbrush highlight of VGC Foul Green.
Brushed on highlight of the same for areas not reached by the airbrush.
Brushed on shadows using VGC Scurvy Green.
2 x airbrushed washes of thinned down VGC Jade Green to try and blend it all together.
Watered down wash of Dark Tone ink.
Watered down wash of Strong Tone ink.

This did not really come out as I had hoped, it is a bit darker than what I would have liked. Should probably have done less washes with the Jade Green, or instead washed with the Foul Green instead. Looks more like a Salamanders scheme tbh. In fact, looks exactly like a Salamanders scheme lol.

The theory behind it is sound however, highlighting upper parts of the armour panels and shading the lower parts, with the mid tone in the center. Comes out nicely. You can see it on the greaves, but it looks even better on the shoulder pads.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think, is it a keeper or is it back to the drawing board?

Clanrats

This is my first pack of clanrats including the musician for the unit.

I have done a few extra things on these rats as part of skill building, including the armour edges (most dark, but one has lighter) and a new eye painting method which whilst not perfect on average has a better outcome with the eyes (eg more of them actually in the eye sockets this time!).

However I made one horrendous mistake whilst doing the quick shade.  After the traditional dunk and shake and dabbed away excess pools of the ink with an old dust cloth.  Unfortunately many small hairs from these deposited nicely into the drying ink and stuck there.  This has spoilt a few of the figures and most definately closer pictures.  But hey, its something to remember not to do again.  Lint free non shredding paper next time!
